Property Operations Manager
The contract is full time for a fixed term, and the annual salary is £30,966. Your working time will be 37.50 hours each week. The employer, National Trust, is a charity. You will be based at Calke Abbey, which is an estate, which could mean diversity in the role. Note some estates are far from public transport. It is located in Derbyshire.

We’re looking for a Property Operations Manager at Stoneywell, to be responsible for the daily operation of this quirky and much-loved National Trust site, and for introducing improvements to make it as welcoming as possible for everyone.
Stoneywell is a remarkable Arts and Crafts house designed by Ernest Gimson and cared for by the National Trust. Built in 1899 and largely unchanged since, the house offers visitors a rare glimpse into family life shaped by craftsmanship, simplicity and a deep connection to the surrounding Charnwood landscape. With its collections, gardens and woodland setting, Stoneywell is a place of quiet beauty and rich storytelling.As part of the Calke Abbey and Leicestershire portfolio, Stoneywell benefits from close collaboration with colleagues across a wider group of places, sharing expertise, resources and leadership to deliver exceptional visitor experiences and high standards of care and conservation. You’ll work primarily at Stoneywell, but will be expected to spend occasional days at Calke Abbey, for example attending senior leadership meetings.As the most senior member of staff on site at Stoneywell, you’ll oversee all aspects of the property’s management – from day-to-day visitor operations and visitor experience to behind-the-scenes conservation, maintenance and winter planning work. You’ll lead the successful operation of this special place, ensuring it is cared for, presented to the highest standards, and ready to welcome visitors throughout the year.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the portfolio – particularly at nearby Calke Abbey – you’ll help shape and deliver a joined-up approach to leadership across both properties. As an active member of the portfolio’s senior leadership team, you’ll contribute to the strategic direction of the whole place and will be expected to work at Calke periodically, supporting wider priorities and partnership working.
Together, you’ll be making sure that every visitor has what they need to have their best possible day, as well as the chance to discover the work of the Trust for themselves.
You’ll line manage a small team of part-time staff as well as a large and valued team of volunteers working across all parts of the visitor experience. You’ll help your team with their priorities and the confidence to achieve their goals, providing them with the care, resources and direction they need to succeed.From time to time, you may also be asked to represent the property externally or support leadership across the wider portfolio. And you’ll be expected to work some weekends and evenings, as required.
We'd love to hear from you if you're:• Experienced in visitor experience, tourism, heritage or similar situations.• Aware of the importance of excellent service, growing support for an important cause and high standards of presentation.• A confident leader and manager of people, adept at leading diverse teams including volunteers.• Well-organised, and able to work at pace and keep to time.• Strong IT competency for effective reporting, record-keeping, finance management and communication.• Up to date with health and safety, compliance and emergence procedures.
